Description
Sega announced on December 13, 2006 that Obsidian Entertainment will be creating a role-playing game based on the Alien film franchise which will be released on PC and next-generation consoles. The game was due to be released sometime in 2009 but now has been delayed until 2010. Obsidian is well known for creating games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2. The role playing game will "build upon the distinctive look and feel of the original films while utilizing next-generation technology to create an entirely different and unique Alien experience".
Simon Jeffery, president of Sega, said "With Obsidian Entertainment's development pedigree, they were our first choice to bring the Alien franchise to the RPG universe. They are the only developer for us that could effectively combine the Alien mythology with compelling RPG gameplay to create the ultimate Alien experience." Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment also said "We are thrilled to be working with the great production and publishing teams at Sega to deliver the ultimate in-depth Alien experience to gamers worldwide. Building an epic RPG with a license as heralded as the Alien franchise is truly a great honor."

Sega Announces New AvP Game / Aliens Games Delayed (11 Feb, 2009)
Well, it has been rumoured since before AvP Requiem came out, it's now official: Sega will be publishing a new Aliens vs. Predator game due to be released in early 2010. Rebellion will be developing the game who also developed the PC FPS AvP1 (1999) and more recently AvP Requiem (2007) for the PSP. There are no platforms announced or even a genre. Here's Sega's press release:
SEGA of America Inc., SEGA Europe Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox L&M) today reveals exciting new details of their increasing portfolio of upcoming games based on Twentieth Century Fox’s Aliens universe.
SEGA will publish an all-new Aliens vs. Predator (working title) game in early 2010. The game is currently in development with independent developer Rebellion, creators of the original 1999 Aliens versus Predator; a legendary title that went on to define an entire generation of multiplayer gaming.
With the opportunity to publish what promises to be a landmark game, SEGA has strategically updated the release of the other upcoming Aliens titles currently in development within its portfolio.
“The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us,” says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi, “It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming’s most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”
“SEGA continues to create masterful games based on our Aliens franchise and this new addition is sure to continue their successful track record,” said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox L&M.
SEGA will announce further details of the new Aliens vs. Predator very soon.
This essentially means Aliens: Colonial Marines and the Aliens RPG have been delayed until after AvP has been released.
